About Atlantic salmon fillet
Atlantic salmon fillet (Salmo salar) is a cut, ready-to-use portion of salmon flesh, free of viscera and usually boneless. The fillet retains all the qualities characteristic of salmon: a pink or orange colour, a rich, succulent texture and a mild flavour. It is one of the most convenient forms of fish, as it allows a portion to be prepared quickly without any additional handling of the fish.
Nutritional value
As with salmon in general, the fillet is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), complete protein, vitamin D and vitamin B12. The fillet has no backbone or large bones, so it is easy to prepare for everyday meals.
Forms and preparation
The fillet can be supplied skin-on or skinless, whole or cut into portions. Its even thickness allows the fish to cook evenly, making it particularly convenient for quick and consistent cooking. Fillet size and weight may vary depending on the origin of the fish and the processing method.
Culinary notes
Salmon fillet is one of the most versatile ingredients in the kitchen. It can be oven-baked or pan-fried, steamed, stewed, smoked, marinated or served lightly cooked. The skin crisps up nicely when cooked, while the rich flesh stays succulent. The fillet pairs well with lemon, dill, mustard and light sauces, and suits both everyday and festive dishes.
